In news out of Opalika/Auburn Alabama, a recent EF-4 tornado “packing 170 mph winds,” has prompted an immense outpouring of donated time and money to help in recovery. The tornado killed 23 people and injured many others.

In the wake of the tornado and the lives it cost, the story notes that Lee County Emergency Management will begin conducting “weekly tests” of its emergency notification system that includes sirens and push notifications to citizens’ phones. Officials said that they “came to the conclusion that if the notification system… saved even 1 life on Sunday then we should go forward with the testing.”
