One warehouse facility in Pittsburgh didn’t have the benefit of a professionally designed, installed and monitored system from Norris recently when it–and it’s precious assets–went up in flames.
A story from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette details that a warehouse being used to house a collection of “hundreds” of antique and classic cars and motorcycles was engulfed by a 6-alarm blaze in Pittsburgh-area Etna.
All the housed vehicles were destroyed, meaning the fire resulted in a total loss for the proprietor. 3 first responders were injured. First responders from multiple surrounding municipalities turned out to help combat the fire which was made worse by the gasoline int he tanks of the vehicles.
A video report of the blaze can be found here.
Surrounding homes and businesses were evacuated. Early reports suggest that the fire broke out from sparks that occurred while a tenant was working on their motorcycle.
One tenant quoted in the story said he was able to save a Ferrari from the blaze by hopping in and driving it out a nearby exit, but $200,000+ Bentley he went back for was not so lucky.
The report does not mention whether or not there were fire detection and suppression system in place at the warehouse.
