Once again, Norris is taking part in the annual Maine Hire-A-Vet campaign August 29th in Augusta. The annual event seeks “to help at least 100 employers recruit and hire at least 100 veterans and military family members over 100 days.”
This hiring fair is free and is open to veterans, military families and the public.
Campaign coordinator Steven Roy said the event was designed to help Maine businesses and veterans alike by providing support for employers to expand the hiring of veterans and military families. A network of state and federal agencies, resources and nonprofits, education on military language and culture, assistance with recruiting, hiring, assimilation and retention, and recognition for the hiring and advancement of veterans is part of the event.
Roy said this year’s event was shaping up to be larger than its 2018 predecessor.
“Last year we had 191 employers signed onto the campaign. This year to date, we have 250 employers attending the MHAV kickoff hiring fair at the Augusta Civic Center,” Roy said.
Norris Chief Operations Officer Craig Elkanich said this was Norris’ 3rd year participating in the event, which the company sees as a very important engagement.
“It is extremely important for employers, and is really a source of pride that Norris Inc. can take part in this event,” Elkanich said. “These people have stepped up, dedicating a portion of their lives to serve our country and they deserve every opportunity we can help provide. We have had many great conversations with veterans during these events, oftentimes providing guidance and reassurance to these individuals.”
Elkanich noted that a large portion of Norris staff had military service backgrounds.
“Norris Inc. currently has 10 employees who are either active in the guard or veterans,” Elkanich said.
Elkanich will be onsite at the event to represent Norris.
