Norris Inc. is a family owned business that has been protecting lives and property with engineered life-safety and security systems for nearly four decades. During that time, Norris has developed a knack for attracting, hiring and holding on to some of the best people around.

Commonly Norris employees have a passion for what they do, a love of country, community, and family and often-times view the Norris Inc. family as their own.

In a continuing series, Norris News takes a look at the people who make up the Norris Inc. Family. This month’s Employee Profile is with Norris Inc. Bookkeeper, Rebecca Williams.

What’s your title and included duties at Norris?

“My official title is Bookkeeper. I am a Notary Public and I manage all accounts receivable, accounts payable, account reconciliations, collections, taxes, new customer set up, and assist with billing as needed.”

That sounds like a very busy schedule.

“I also help with whatever anyone else needs.”

How long have you been at Norris?

 “I’ve been here 6 ½ years.”

What different positions have you held at Norris?

“I’ve always been the bookkeeper, but certain tasks have changed as staffing changes and the company continues to grow.”

How has your tenure at Norris prepared you to be successful in life?

“My position has helped me grow in my ability to manage many different tasks and priorities at the same time.”

What do you love most about your job?

“The numbers! Yep, I’m a geek…  I also have the pleasure of working with some pretty incredible people and there’s nothing better than going to work knowing that the people you interact with are equally as motivated to solve problems and get things done with a smile. But the absolute best perks are BBQ days, boy do I love Bob’s BBQ cheeseburgers and cheesecake!”

What frustrates you about your job?

“When the numbers don’t add up!”

Do you have a family?

“Yes, my son, parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and an awesome group of friends whom I think of as family.”

Children?

“I’m blessed to be called Mom by an amazing 7-year-old boy who is the light of my life!  He brings me joy and keeps me on my toes!”

What lessons have you learned through your duties at Norris that you’d like to pass on to others/your children?

“Perseverance and forward thinking. Even when things are challenging, you have to learn to think a few steps ahead or “outside the box” to find a solution.  I try to teach this to my son every chance I get. Obstacles and challenges are simply greater opportunities for learning and growth.”

Can you talk about one personal goal you have for 2019?

“To play more! It’s easy to let responsibilities and priorities consume so much of your time that you forget the small things like spending time with the people you care about most!”

Can you talk about one professional goal you have for 2019?

“I want to master our new software programs and create a system to simplify and increase efficiency in my daily tasks so I can continue to learn new things and take on more responsibilities.  There have been a lot of changes over the past year and there’s always room to improve and grow!”

What do you enjoy doing in your spare/free time?

“This is a long list!  I’m an Assistant Den Leader for my son’s Cub Scout pack and when we aren’t busy doing scout stuff we are busy with sports, playing board games, hiking, snowshoeing, camping, swimming, hanging out at the beach and anything else I can squeeze in outside depending on the season.”

Anything else I haven’t asked about that people should know?

“Not really, but I will say that positivity and hard work have made my personal life and work life very rewarding. One of my favorite sayings is ‘one never knows what a day will bring’ and I try to remember that and make each day the best I can.”
