Covid-19 has affected virtually everyone’s life in one way or another. To add to the list, the York Nebraska Fire Department has announced they will not carry out their regular spring smoke detector check for senior citizens. You can read the original article here: York News-Times. The suspension of the smoke detector checks is due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

“Due to the COVID-19 situation, the spring smoke detector checks that are held each April will not be held this year,” the story reads. “Each year, in the spring and fall, members of the York Fire Department and York FFA members go to the homes of elderly residents to check and replace the batteries in their smoke detectors. This year that won’t happen because of the ongoing situation.”

Norris understands the importance of regularly testing and inspecting fire alarm systems. Although fire alarm systems are well-designed, they need to be tested and inspected regularly. These inspections uncover any issues that may require service or maintenance.

We all know how important it is to test in-home smoke detectors regularly.

While Norris Inc does not perform work on residential smoke detectors, we do specialize in commercial fire safety systems. If you need help with a new system installation or maintenance on an existing fire alarm, you should reach out to us. You can contact our fire alarm expert Melissa Peters today to discuss your fire alarm needs.

According to the story, the plan is to shift the regular fall inspection to an earlier time. The shift will make up for the missed spring inspections for the elderly community’s smoke detectors.

“They are planning to do the checks on Oct. 14 – which is earlier than is typically done in the fall each year,” the story reads.

Even in these unprecedented times of social distancing and limited contact, the techs at Norris are still on the job. The techs are keeping your systems running and helping to keep you safe.
