NI: What’s your title and included duties at Norris? 

JA: Systems Integrator for Northern Maine, based in the Bangor office. I handle Design and Sales.

NI: How long have you been at Norris? 

JA: 18 Years

NI: What are some of the major changes to life-safety and security technology you’ve seen in that time?

JA: The biggest changes I have seen in the industry are the move towards IP-based system, involving IT personnel more heavily, and the expansion of wireless devices for traditionally wired components.


NI: What different positions have you held at Norris? 

JA: Service Technician, Engineer, Sales.

NI: How has your tenure at Norris prepared you to be successful in life? 

JA: Being in sales and design, with the number of products Norris, Inc sells can be a very fast-paced position. Having the ability to multi-task and handle stressful situations as well as accommodate customers’ needs on the fly, so to speak, has helped me be successful personally as well.

NI: What life experiences have you had that have made you successful at Norris?

JA: Early in my career at Norris, Inc I was injured, non-work related. I was out of work for 2 years. Norris, Inc stood by me and maintained communications with me during this time. Having a family mentality with an employer gave me the drive to work harder and help the company succeed as much as possible when I was able to return to work full time.

NI: What do you love most about your job?

JA: I really love the ability to work with both contractors and end-users, offering the full line of systems and equipment we provide.

NI: What frustrates you about your job?

JA: Short deadlines for bid projects.

NI: Are you married? Have any kids?

JA: Yes, I’m married, and I have two girls. One is 19, attending college, the other is 13 and just completed 7th grade.

NI: What lessons have you learned through your duties at Norris that you’d like to pass on to others/your children?

JA: Let the ones you lose roll off your back, learn from them but don’t dwell.

NI: Can you talk about one personal goal you have for the rest of  2020?

JA: Finalize plans for a trip somewhere for my 25th wedding anniversary.

NI: Can you talk about one professional goal you have for the last half of 2020?

JA: Master the revisions to the newly adopted Life Safety and Fire Alarm Codes as they pertain to designs.

NI: What do you enjoy doing in your spare/free time? 

JA: Fly fishing for trout, bird hunting, and an occasional round of golf.
