In news out of Jacksonville Illinois, the ongoing increase in residential and business video surveillance has been a boon to police officers in the area.

The Jacksonville Journal-Courier reported that police have been lauding the increase and encouraging homeowners and businesses to register their systems and agree to share footage with investigators if needed.

”The placement of a camera can be a beneficial tool in the identification of a suspect,” a Jacksonville PD official said in the story. Another PD official added “In almost every case we investigate, our officers are canvasing the area to look for cameras on homes or businesses. Most generally, the public is willing to assist us by providing footage.”
