Norris knows the value of well-designed, professionally installed and maintained life-safety and security systems.

Fire alarm systems are required and help to save lives and protect property. Intrusion detection and access control systems, while not legally required in most commercial settings are certainly a good idea.

The same goes for video surveillance. Video allows you to gain more operational intelligence, create an audit trail of what’s going on around your business and also could possibly help solve crimes.

The Good Men Project website has a recent edition that highlights 3 crimes that were helped on their way to “SOLVED!” by the presence of surveillance.

The story points out that even in cases where the camera wasn’t able to stop the crime, it could at least provide some closure.

The first example they give is the case of the abduction of Carlesha Freeland-Gaither. Gaither’s violent abduction was caught on surveillance footage and it was that footage that helped police find her days later.

ATF agents who were investigating the abductor on other charges saw the broadcast surveillance footage of the attack/abduction and phoned in a tip that led to his arrest and Gaither’s rescue.

The second and third examples don’t have quite as happy endings. However, as noted previously, at least the crimes were able to be solved with the help of surveillance footage and some closure and sense of justice found for the families of the victims.

Please consider using video surveillance at your place of business in order to put into place a deterrent and also as a forensic measure.
