In recent news from The Metro UK, a UK-based consumer watchdog group, Watchdog Which? has tested s few different smoke and CO detectors available for sale through eBay and Wish and found them lacking.
The report says that they tested 4 different models which accounted for top sales at both eBay and wish and none of them would have performed in a real fire, despite carrying a CE mark

“Which? found the four alarms accounted for 171 of the cheapest 500 listings for smoke detectors on eBay, which has now removed the listings,” the story says. “Three of the alarms accounted for 28 of 200 listings on rival online marketplace Wish.”

The story notes that the devices were manufactured in China and in some cases were shipped without directions in English which makes them illegal to sell in the UK where Watchdog Which conducted its tests.

Ebay did comment that the devices flagged by Watchdog Which had been removed from their site.
